Rúben Amorim has issued a strong statement about Manchester United’s summer transfer window amid questions surrounding whether they will have to sell players.

A major squad overhaul is expected at Manchester United this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to reshape the team he has inherited from Erik ten Hag.

Several players are already confirmed to leave, with Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton departing when their contracts expire in June.

The club are also looking to offload Casemiro to cut down on wages, while Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are not part of Amorim’s plans and could be sold.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the potential sales of Academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, as their departures would be recorded as “pure profit” in the club’s financial books, helping to ease financial pressures.

Amorim’s strong transfer statement

With United set to take on Real Sociedad at Old Trafford in the second leg of their Europa League knockout stages, many questions are starting to look at next campaign.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Amorim was asked if the club have an idea as to what they want to do this summer, and the 40-year-old replied with a strong message that a plan is already in place.

“We have a clear plan to address next season,” Amorim declared. “Of course, we have Europa League also and you can reach Champions League. We never know. It’s far from this moment, but you never know.

“You can’t change the preparation for next season. So we have a plan. We know what to do. We know that we are in a difficult moment, but the most important thing, again, is to have a plan and to know what to do and what kind of players you need to bring.”

Further, the head coach was asked if this may involve selling key players in order to raise the funds needed, to which he was a little more coy.

“We’ll see. We’ll see,” Amorim said. “In this moment, we just focus especially in this competition [the Europa League]. That can change everything. So let’s focus on the game tomorrow.”
