Rúben Amorim singles out two Manchester United stars after Wolves draw, they could both leave this season

Rúben Amorim has called out two Manchester United stars in the post-match of the 1-1 draw to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Wolves will be a huge disappointment for Rúben Amorim. The United manager looked to be driving the club up the Premier League table, but they have now been brought back down to reality by the worst side in the division.

Although United were missing several key stars on Tuesday evening. Amad, Noussair Mazraoui and Bryan Mbeumo are all away at the African Cup of Nations, while Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount are out injured.

However, the likes of Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško should’ve been enough to inspire United to victory, especially after Joshua Zirkzee’s strike gave United the lead in the opening 30 minutes.

Despite an impressive performance from Senne Lammens and Ayden Heaven before his substitution, United couldn’t hold on against Wolves, as they equalised just before half-time. Patrick Dorgu thought he took the lead in the second half, but he was found to be offside after a lengthy VAR check.

Amorim singles out two starters

Following United’s disappointing result against Wolves, Amorim spoke about the differences between his midfield combinations without Fernandes.

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte started the game in the double pivot and failed to progress the ball quickly. United tried and subsequently failed to break down the Wolves’ low block, likely because of the midfield partnership.

Amorim said: “When you field Casemiro and Ugarte, you know it’s different from Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, or Bruno Fernandes.

“That’s normal. We need to get our players back, and the fluidity will be different. Again, we won the last match, and we could have won this one with the players available. We lacked fluidity and creativity.”

Both could leave sooner rather than later

Both Casemiro and Ugarte could leave Old Trafford sooner rather than later, especially if United continue their hunt for a new central midfielder.

Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton appear to be top of the United shortlist, with at least one signing expected to be made in January, and another in the summer.

Casemiro’s current contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 season, while Ugarte could leave even earlier. One Champions League side has already begun talks to sign the United midfielder.

Toby Collyer’s recall decision, which will see him remain at Old Trafford when he returns to full fitness, could pave the way for Ugarte to leave.
