Ruben Amorim sends transfer message to Jason Wilcox as two Man Utd stars name-dropped

Ruben Amorim has sent a transfer message to Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox after name-dropping two players.

Although the 2025/26 season has only recently begun, Manchester United are already looking ahead to next summer’s transfer window.

The club’s recent signings have drawn plenty of praise, with Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens highlighted as particularly shrewd acquisitions. Even so, there are still clear areas in the squad that need strengthening.

Ruben Amorim is especially eager to bolster the midfield, and several potential targets have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford next year. United might also have to strengthen in other positions depending on outgoings.

Jason Wilcox, the club’s director of football, has a close relationship with Amorim and he would have been listening when the Portuguese boss spoke to the media this week.

Ahead of the next game against Everton, Amorim was asked why his United team have dropped off in the second half of matches this term.

“I think we have some problems in two games that we lost, we lose Casemiro with some pain, Harry Maguire the same thing, and they are key players,” he explained.

“Not just the way they play and the experience they have, the set pieces and people don’t take that into consideration.”

Even though Casemiro and Maguire are important players for Amorim, they could both leave when their contracts expire next summer.

Amorim would want both of them replaced if that happened, but it also seems like he is eager to have increased depth in those positions too.

United need midfield depth

It does seem like United get worse in games if Casemiro is replaced by Manuel Ugarte midway through the second half. The Uruguayan has failed to impress in any cameos this term.

Kobbie Mainoo is the only other midfielder who appears on the bench and it doesn’t seem like he is trusted to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Right now, it would be a lot easier for United and Amorim if Casemiro could compete for 90 minutes but the head coach needs to try and find alternative solutions too.

In the end, extra reinforcements in that position next summer is inevitable and it should help United raise their levels.
