Ruben Amorim sends Man United fans 14-word message which proves Jose Mourinho prediction correct
Ruben Amorim has sent Manchester United fans a 14-word message which proves Jose Mourinho’s prediction correct.
Manchester United have named Ruben Amorim as their new head coach following the departure of Erik ten Hag from Old Trafford.
Ten Hag, who had his contract extended by a year during the summer, faced a difficult start to the season that left United in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League.
This resulted in his exit on Monday morning, prompting the club to move quickly to appoint Amorim as his successor.
Amorim will take charge of his first match after the November international break, when United face Ipswich Town. In the meantime, he remains at Sporting.
His side won in convincing fashion on Friday evening, with a 5-1 victory prolonging their perfect start to the league season to 10 games, before he was quizzed by reporters about his move after the game.
“I asked Manchester United if it could be at the end of the season,” admitted Amorim during his post-match press conference.
“It was what I wanted. United said no. It was now or never. So I had to make a decision.”
Further asked about the struggling situation the Old Trafford club find themselves in, Amorim sent a 14 word message to United fans that they will enjoy to hear.
The 39-year-old explained that this is desirable to him because he is free to implement his own style, suggesting that he won’t make any compromises like Ten Hag did.
“This is exactly the context I wanted,” he added. “Because I can do things my way.”
Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation has attracted a lot of attention and it is clear that the Portuguese manager will not make large adjustments to that system.
Ten Hag admitted that he was unable to play the style he did at Ajax due to the players at Old Trafford. That playstyle was one of the main reasons he was initially appointed.
Yet, Amorim’s decision will not surprise his hero and former mentor Jose Mourinho, who he worked under during an internship at United in 2018.
A recent report from the Manchester Evening News says that Mourinho believes that his former club are hiring the “best manager in Portugal” in Amorim.
It was also stated that the ‘Special One’ insists Amorim never changes his approach, which he describes as “always intense”, regardless of the opposition.
