Ruben Amorim sack timeline U-turn explained as ex-United boss returns to Manchester

Ruben Amorim continues to struggle to find solutions at Manchester United and there have been plenty of rumours about his future.

Manchester United have recorded only two victories from their opening seven matches this season, beating Chelsea and Burnley.

Ruben Amorim’s side relied on an early sending-off and a late penalty to grind out those wins. After last season’s disappointing campaign, a stronger start was essential, but United have failed to deliver.

The 3-1 defeat at Brentford has added to the mounting pressure on Amorim, with concerns growing over his tactics and ability to get the team moving in the right direction.

There have been rumours surrounding the head coach’s future in recent weeks but reports claim that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to give him a full season.

Amorim sack timeline U-turn explained

United face Sunderland this weekend before the international break and will then travel away to Anfield to play Liverpool once they return to action.

Even though many reports have suggested Amorim’s job is safe, Ben Jacobs has claimed that the Portuguese boss does not have as much time as many think.

“Ruben Amorim, I think, doesn’t have that many games to turn things around,” Jacobs said on the United Stand YouTube channel.

“I’m not so sure despite the fact that I respect other reports that it’s as clear-cut as he’ll get a full season.

“I think more likely from speaking to people in and around the club, he’ll get 38 games split across 2 seasons and they’ll use that somewhat as a yardstick.”

So far, Amorim has took charge of 33 Premier League fixtures. He has won nine of those, drawn seven and lost 17.

Ex-United boss Solskjær returns to Manchester

There are plenty of rumours about who would take over Amorim if he was sacked, and some of those suggest the club will look for an interim boss.

Michael Carrick has been linked with that potential position. The ex-midfielder was Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s assistant manager at Old Trafford.

Solskjær was recently sacked from his role at Besiktas. According to The Sun, he has recently returned to his home in Cheshire.

Those reports also explained how United considered appointing Solskjær as the interim manager for the second time when Erik ten Hag was sacked last year.

With the Norwegian back in town, some fans would certainly like to see him try and steady the ship if Amorim is moved on.
