Ruben Amorim has revealed part of how he will set up in Manchester United’s new 3-4-3 formation against Ipswich Town.

Ruben Amorim’s first match as Manchester United head coach is fast approaching, with the Reds set to face Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

The 39-year-old officially took over at Old Trafford nearly two weeks ago but only began working with his squad on the training pitch earlier this week.

Despite sitting 13th in the Premier League, United are just four points off the top four.

With a packed schedule ahead, Amorim has plenty of opportunities to turn the team’s fortunes around and improve their position on the pitch.

His tactical approach is something that has intrigued many fans, who are interested in seeing how the players fit into the new system under Amorim.

The new head coach has since revealed to Sky Sports that he will begin with fullbacks playing on the flanks, rather than wingers.

However, he also stressed that it is a position where the personnel can change depending on the opponent.

“I don’t want to say too much but you have to use both because you have different games,” explained Amorim when asked whether he will be using fullbacks or wingers as the wingbacks.

“We should start with fullbacks because with the structures… to teach a winger how to defend is harder.

“We have to adapt some players and this is also the hard part to start in the middle of the season.”

It seems like a sensible call from Amorim, who will want to ensure his team is defensively stronger to begin with, before then making decisions to try and improve the offence.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are the two most likely to start since Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still not match fit.

The game kicks off at 16:30 GMT on Sunday afternoon, with more details here.
