Ruben Amorim reveals two reasons why Benjamin Šeško is benched for Man Utd vs Fulham

Benjamin Šeško will have to wait a little longer to make his full Manchester United debut after being named on the bench against Fulham.

Manchester United turn their attention to their second Premier League outing of the season this afternoon as they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage, with kick-off set for 16:30 BST.

Ruben Amorim’s side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford in their opener, though the performance offered plenty of encouragement after a strong pre-season.

This time, however, United must convert positives into points, with three points considered vital to sparking their campaign into life.

Many fans expected Benjamin Šeško to make his full debut after appearing off the bench against the Gunners but he remains amongst the substitutes as Mason Mount continues in the team.

Fulham, meanwhile, are also chasing their first victory of the season after snatching a late equaliser against Brighton in their opening fixture under Marco Silva.

Amorim reveals two reasons why Šeško is benched vs Fulham

Šeško produced a decent display off the bench last weekend against Arsenal but many were hoping that he would get more minutes on the pitch to impress at Craven Cottage.

Amorim has explained that there are two main reasons why he has decided to start Šeško from the bench again in this clash.

After hinting that one of the reasons was the tactical approach in attack, the United boss also explained how Šeško is still getting used to his new club behind-the-scenes.

We tried to imagine what would happen during the match. We need to have options to play differently,” the United boss told club reporters ahead of the game.

“Šeško has been with us for two weeks, he is trying to understand everything. We need to be patient a little. We just want to win the match and try to help all our players.”

Šeško can be integrated slowly

While everyone is certainly hoping to see a lot more of Šeško going forward, this is almost the exact situation fans have been asking for over the last two years with Rasmus Højlund.

There is not an experienced no.9 in the frontline but the quality of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, alongside a fresh Mason Mount, means that Amorim doesn’t have to throw Šeško into the deep end.

The Slovenian striker does not seem to have the same pressure as Højlund did when he arrived at the club in 2023 and that is a good thing.

He will be able to get minutes off the bench, come in and out of the team across the season if needed, as he gets used to life at Old Trafford.
