Ruben Amorim receives unexpected Leny Yoro boost this summer, Man Utd defender will have mixed feelings

Ruben Amorim has received an unexpected boost regarding Manchester United defender Leny Yoro this summer ahead of an important season.

Manchester United have just concluded their worst season in recent memory and there is huge pressure on a dramatic improvement to occur next season.

Ruben Amorim is being supported by signings in the transfer window, with Matheus Cunha already through the door, but he also must improve his approach in the Premier League.

There are some positives for the manager, with the performances of Leny Yoro being one of them. The French defender joined the club from Lille last summer.

After sustaining an injury in pre-season, he did not make his debut until a game against Arsenal last December. Since that point, he pushed on and became one of United’s most important players heading towards the end of the season.

United receive unexpected Yoro boost

Yoro was rushed back from injury to play in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur – showcasing his importance to the side.

He was not part of the post-season tour of Asia, likely because the Reds did not want to take any risks with his fitness ahead of next term.

But with the Under-21 European Championships coming up this summer, it seemed like Yoro wouldn’t be getting much rest. Surprisingly to United fans, the France squad has not included the defender.

For those at Old Trafford, this is a boost as Yoro will be getting extra rest ahead of returning to pre-season at Carrington in July. He is expected to be a major part of Amorim’s team going forward.

Yoro may have mixed feelings

While it is not confirmed whether Yoro opted out of the squad to avoid injury or whether he was left out, the young defender will have mixed feelings.

He has experienced difficulties on the sidelines over the last year and will certainly appreciate the time off heading into an important season.

However, his time in the international teams has been full of frustrations. Lille stopped him from being included in the Olympics squad last summer.

Yoro has also only appeared four times for the France Under-21s side, with his last appearance for them in 2023. He played once for the Olympics side last year in a friendly game.

Fortunately for the United defender, he has time on his hands and it feels like a breakthrough for him in the national setup is just a matter of time.
