Rúben Amorim told to ignore Real Madrid’s call amid Manchester United’s three ‘most important’ players

Rúben Amorim has been told to ignore interest from Real Madrid amid the naming of Manchester United’s three ‘most important’ players.

Rúben Amorim is beginning to find his rhythm with Manchester United, having overseen five matches across two competitions since taking charge.

In the Europa League, the team secured a victory, but their Premier League form has been inconsistent. United delivered an emphatic 4-0 win against Everton but suffered defeats to  Arsenal and Nottingham Forest alongside a draw with Ipswich Town.

Amorim has implemented a rotation policy, making five or six changes to his starting XIs in each game. The manager has explained that this approach allows key players to rest and dedicate more time to training on the pitch.

A notable benefit of this rotation strategy has been the return of several injured players. Currently, Luke Shaw is the only first-team player still sidelined.

Real Madrid’s transfer call

According to talkSPORT, fan favourite Lisandro Martínez is gathering interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The report states that the Argentina international is one of many Premier League players that Los Blancos has been tracking, with his World Cup win no doubt a factor in this.

It’s stated that although Martínez is well liked within the club, he is not off limits to a possible sale should an offer deemed acceptable be sent through. United signed him for around £48 million from Ajax in 2022.

The club are thought to be keen to keep young stars Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Alejandro Garnacho, but are open to offers for almost every other player to help stay on the right side of profit and sustainability rules.

United’s three most important players

However, former Premier League professional Chris Sutton has named Martínez as one of Amorim’s three most important players and would no doubt caution against his sale.

“You’re glass half empty, there aren’t three names,” he told spaceportsweden when asked to name the three most vital players in Amorim’s side. “The 3-4-3, to implement that, they’re playing three games a week at this moment in time. It’s really difficult for them.

“It’s not surprised me, I don’t know whether it surprised you, the fact that the first real test they came up against, set-piece Arsenal. And then at the weekend, Forest, who have had an excellent season. They’ve found it difficult and so I don’t think anything has greatly changed.

“There’s a guy who’s coming and he just needs patience and he’s trying to find the right formula. So, you know, there is that aspect and that’s not easy. This isn’t his mess. It’s just a mess he’s inherited and he’s trying to clear up.

“I think Bruno Fernandes he’ll find a role for him somewhere. I always think Lisandro Martinez has a bit about him, and Kobbie Mainoo has to be one. I do worry about Eriksen and Casemiro long term if you’re playing the system which he plays, every team needs legs.

“Mainoo offers more than just legs, but you need that athleticism. I think the jury’s out on a lot of players. I’m glad you didn’t say five names.”
