Ruben Amorim produces transfer U-turn as Manchester United have new January target
Ruben Amorim will be keen for Manchester United chiefs to make some additions to his squad in the January transfer window.
Manchester United are fresh from a positive result away at Anfield, drawing 2-2 against the Premier League leaders Liverpool.
This comes after a poor run of form for Ruben Amorim’s men and the performance leaves question marks over why the same level could not be shown in previous games.
There are many improvements needed at Old Trafford right now but a simple one is bringing in new signings who suit Amorim’s system.
Amorim produces January transfer U-turn
Amorim has changed his tune about United’s chances of making signings in the mid-season window this month.
It is clear that additions are needed, and while sales will be necessary for any movement, the United boss appears to be more confident than he was this time last week.
“What was interesting was to hear how Ruben Amorim actually switched his tone about the transfer window last week,” Melissa Reddy detailed on Sky Sports.
“On Monday he was telling us there’s no point looking at the window for solutions for Manchester United given their position of needing to sell to buy.
“But by Friday, he was saying to us that United do have their eyes open in the market and they will try to do something.”
United have new January target
It has been well reported that one of the priorities for Amorim this month would be a wingback, particularly on the left side.
Nuno Mendes appears to be the favoured option for that position, but the Reds are also eyeing another position.
Reddy adds that the club are eyeing a potential midfield target who can provide a blend of direct play and technical quality.
This appears to suit the role of the left-sided no.10 position, which doesn’t seem to fit any of the current players at United perfectly.
“What I’m also told is that there is a need to inject a directness into the squad, more aggression, through a more dynamic profile,” added Reddy.
“Somebody who gives you technical quality, speed and strength in the duels, specifically in the midfield area.

“I think United are trying to do see how they manoeuvre what is going to be quite a restricted market with their limited funds. They are trying to do something clever and helpful for Ruben Amorim.”
