Rúben Amorim may be being forced into actioning a transfer against his wishes after one Manchester United star enters talks to leave Old Trafford.
As Manchester United prepare themselves for a number of outgoings this summer, fans will be hoping that a majority of these incoming players will improve the club in many areas of the pitch.
Fans will be wanting upgrades in the quality of regular starters, as seen by Matheus Cunha being linked to United, and also much-needed improvement in depth in positions like midfield and centre-back.
Earlier in the week, transfer expert David Ornstein explained that, if they can, United do not want to sell André Onana this summer, even though he has made a number of mistakes in goal across the season.
Despite Ruben Amorim maintaining faith in the 29-year-old, his future at the club remains in doubt as rumours of a transfer have started to circulate.
Is Onana Saudi Arabia-bound?
With United potentially letting Altay Bayindir leave this summer, losing both keepers in one window could cost the club as much as £100 million in buying replacements.
Keepers such as Bart Verbruggen, Zion Suzuki and Diogo Costa would all cost between £40 and £60 million each.
Footmercato has reported that newly promoted Saudi club Neom has already started major discussions with Onana’s representatives.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Onana is open to leaving United this summer to secure a transfer to Saudi Arabia, although it remains to be seen whether all parties can reach an agreement.
Other reports have previously stated that United would be seeking a fee of at least £20 million should they need to sell the Cameroon international.
Where should United prioritise?
Although Onana has faced criticism for his performances this season, strengthening the attack will surely be Amorim’s top priority this summer.
United’s financial situation has been well documented, and with a near-complete squad overhaul required, the club will need to prioritise certain positions.
Reports suggest United will have a budget of around £20–30 million before any player sales are factored in, with potential departures — including Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho — expected to bring in significant fees.
In the Premier League, Manchester United have managed just 38 goals this season — only five more than newly promoted Ipswich Town. Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund, and Joshua Zirkzee have combined for just 11 league goals, underlining the urgent need to strengthen the forward line.
