Rúben Amorim’s perfect Manchester United transfer is now “really keen” to join him at Old Trafford after his fresh transfer demand.

Manchester United have entered the 2025 January transfer window at a turbulent time in their history, reeling from four consecutive defeats in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Under Rúben Amorim, the club are in urgent need of reinforcements. However, the lavish spending during Erik ten Hag’s two-and-a-bit seasons in charge has left United in financial disarray.

The squad requires significant investment, including a new left-back, at least one centre-back, a striker, and several midfielders over the course of 2025. Yet, limited funds make it difficult to secure these much-needed signings.

As a result, United are prioritising the offloading of several players in January and the summer to generate the resources necessary for these moves.

Amorim’s latest United transfer demand

According to the Daily Star, Amorim has demanded that United sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres in January after the 39-year-old explained he cannot wait until the summer amid the club’s goalscoring woes.

As a result of this, United are now stepping up their pursuit of the player, although the report states that Sporting president Frederico Varandas is expected to demand the club pay his £80 million release clause.

United would, therefore, likely have to offload some significant assets to get the deal over the line, with the two potential candidates being Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee, while Antony and Casemiro are both rumoured to have suitors, too.

Gyökeres is certainly familiar with Amorim, having played under him at Sporting before the Portuguese coach moved to Old Trafford. He is one of the hottest strikers in Europe, having scored 26 goals in 24 games this campaign.

The 26-year-old would be a perfect signing for Amorim as it would ensure he has a pivotal position covered by a player who understands his formation at a time when many of the Old Trafford players are failing to follow his instructions due to a lack of training.

Gyökeres now “really keen” to join Amorim United

A fresh report from iNews has now claimed that Gyökeres has become “very keen” on the potential move to United.

Further, it’s said that Sporting would be willing to accept an offer of around £60 million in the summer, if United chose to hold out and test the waters for the Swedish international later in the year.

Speaking back in November just before Amorim left Sporting for United, he was asked if he would considering trying to sign Gyökeres in January.

“I’ve just made peace with the Sporting fans, I’m not even going to make a joke about it,” Amorim replied.

‘Gyokeres is a Sporting player, which is a great club, he did a lot for it, he was in the second division, he just has to stay and finish the season at Marques.”

Asked the same in a separate interview, Amorim replied: “No, no, no. I cannot be funny with that in this moment.

“It was tough for me to leave, if I start joking about that with Gyokeres, I’ll have problems. This is my city, this is my country, I will respect.

“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life is going, maybe, somewhere else.”
