UtdDistrict understands that Rúben Amorim has identified midfield as his summer transfer priority area as Manchester United’s current budget status is explained.

Rúben Amorim has been named Manchester United‘s new head coach, succeeding Erik ten Hag, whose tenure ended with the club in a state of crisis.

Ten Hag was sacked at the end of last month after United’s dismal form left them 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, falling far behind their competitors in both competitions.

Due to complications with his release clause, Amorim has not yet taken charge of a match. His first game on the sidelines is expected next weekend when United face Ipswich Town away in the Premier League on Sunday, 24 November.

Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager during the transition, leading United to an unbeaten run of three wins and a draw. However, he departed to accommodate Amorim’s newly appointed coaching team at Carrington.

Amorim’s priority area

Amorim recently took charge of his first training session at the club and has spent the past week assessing his new surroundings and getting to know the players in his new squad.

UtdDistrict understands that, following his initial evaluation of his United first-team squad, Amorim feels he needs new midfielders as a priority in the summer.

Although Amorim will not have access to funds or significant transfers in January, sources explain that Amorim believes he needs a new defensive midfielder and another body who can operate in one of the two No. 10 positions in his 3-4-3 formation.

Although United have plenty of midfielders in the current squad, several may leave. Reports suggest Christain Eriksen will leave once his contract expires, while there is uncertainty surrounding Casemiro’s long-term future at the club.

United’s budget problems

According to ESPN, Rúben Amorim will not have significant funds to spend in January, and the club have requested that he coax the best out of the squad he inherited.

According ot the report, due to financial of those at United, Amorim will not have much of a budget in the upcoming winter window, and once the summer arrives, budgets will remain tight.

Amorim is already a big fan of several first-team players, such as Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro, and he has deployed Manuel Ugarte 85 times during their time together at Sporting CP.

Although Amorim will have a say in the club’s future transfers, ESPN reports that sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox are now overseeing the club’s overall recruitment.
