Rúben Amorim is reportedly willing to use one Manchester United star as a makeweight for an “elite” transfer after becoming unconvinced during his opening months.

Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.

United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per match. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns.

Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

Despite these departures, United did not strengthen their attacking options in January. Their only additions were defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has suggested that Dorgu could also be utilised in a more advanced role.

Amorim using Højlund as makeweight

Calls for a new striker have come to light after 22-year-old Rasmus Højlund has failed to produce goals this campaign, having scored five during Amorim’s opening few games but none in the 17 games since.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Amorim has been left unconvinced by Højlund following his poor form, and the report further points to the idea that the head coach would be open to using the Dane as a makeweight for a transfer.

United have been closely linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the last few months, with the 26-year-old “elite” striker set to depart the Italian club this summer.

Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray following a fallout with Napoli decision makers, and has a £62 million release clause in his contract for this campaign.

However, the above report states that United could now offer Højlund plus a fee of around £33 million to try and secure the Nigerian international. Napoli have been credited with interest in Højlund on multiple occasions before.

What Osimhen said about the summer

Speaking to Turkish reporters earlier this week, Osimhen explained that he does not know where his future lies.

“To be honest I don’t know. You know the last few months, nobody ever thought I would come here, I never believed I would come to Galatasaray despite how big they are,” Osimhen said when asked about his future.

“I live for the moment. I don’t know what will happen in the summer, but I want everybody to understand that I really love this club.

“I love the fans, I love the President, I love everyone associated with the club. It’s really a big deal to be here and I’m really enjoying my time here.”
