“So smart…” Rúben Amorim quick to praise 127-touch Manchester United star vs Ipswich
Rúben Amorim has been quick to praise a 127-touch Manchester United star following the side’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Ipswich Town.
Rúben Amorim‘s first match as Manchester United manager ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The game burst into life early, with Marcus Rashford finding the net within two minutes, finishing superbly after a brilliant run and cross from Amad Diallo.

Ipswich responded just before half-time when Omari Hutchinson unleashed a stunning strike that soared over André Onana into the top-left corner, aided by a deflection off Noussair Mazraoui.
Despite the setback, Onana delivered an outstanding performance, pulling off several crucial saves to ensure the match ended level at full-time.
Amorim’s smart star
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Rúben Amorim made sure to highlight one of his stars for their fantastic performance despite the side’s draw.
Against Ipswich, United had to play a makeshift back line, with right-back Noussiar Mazraoui filling in at centre-back.
“We don’t have too many centre-backs so we have to adapt some players,” Amorim explained when asked about the Moroccan international’s position.
“I thought Noussair Mazraoui did very well. He is so smart and is so important for us. He can play anywhere, and that kind of player is crucial for our future.”
127 touches
Mazraoui has been a revelation since he signed from Bayern Munich for a £12 million fee in the summer.
He has been one of the club’s most consistent players and was fantastic against Ipswich. He played in a defensive role but focused on progressing the play forward.
He has 127 touches, completed 104 of his 114 attempted passes, and completed six of his ten attempted long balls.
He also won two of his three tackles, cleared the ball twice, and made six recoveries. He is set to be a very important player under Amorim.
