Rúben Amorim has been told he must look to axe those who underperformed as Manchester United fell to a 3-0 loss against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Manchester United suffered a stunning 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, leaving Rúben Amorim’s side languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table.

The match began with both sides vying for control, but it was Bournemouth who struck first. Dean Huijsen capitalized on United’s set-piece vulnerability with a looping header that put the visitors ahead.

Despite Bruno Fernandes’ determined efforts to rally United in the closing stages of the first half, they entered the break trailing 1-0.

Amorim made attacking changes in the second half in an attempt to spark a comeback, but Bournemouth remained resolute. Noussair Mazraoui’s foul on Justin Kluivert gifted the visitors a penalty in the 60th minute, which Kluivert calmly converted.

Just moments later, Antoine Semenyo compounded United’s misery with a third goal, leaving Amorim’s men with too much to do. Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, secured a remarkable victory, leaving the hosts reeling after another disappointing afternoon.

Amorim told to axe underperforming players vs Bournemouth

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the Bournemouth result, former United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen said that he feels Amorim must now look to start cutting those from the squad who haven’t performed.

“What Amorim got to make sure now is that that’s not a wasted game,” Owen said. “Everyone can say, oh yeah, you know, three, you know, we lost no points and all the rest of it. But it can’t be a waste.

“He’ll be watching with eagle eyes and making sure that these players that are not performing, they won’t put on a red shirt again.

“He’s got to be that brutal and that ruthless. So these games can’t be wasted.”

What Amorim thought about United’s loss

Speaking to the BBC after the game, Amorim admitted that he knows the loss will be a hard one for the fans to take.

“It’s really hard especially if you saw the game,” he said. We concede one foul and then a goal. We were winning second balls and creating chances.

“We conceded a penalty and then the third goal. It was really hard for the fans. We have to go again next game.

“We have a lot of situations where they managed to score a little bit similar to Tottenham. It’s really hard on everyone in the stadium. We have to fight this moment.

“We have to maintain the calm when you suffer a goal. It was similar in the last match. The players need to understand the game has different moments.

“I always expected [job to be tough], especially in these busy months. We are ready to face the challenge.”
