Rúben Amorim has been told he must reverse a recent transfer decision from Manchester United and do “everything” to sign a £67 million superstar player this summer.

Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for goals.

United’s lack of firepower has been a persistent issue this season, with the team often failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns.

Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

Despite these departures, United did not secure any attacking replacements in January. Their only signings were defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has hinted that Dorgu could also be deployed in a more attacking role.

United must do “everything” to sign Kane

With United needing goals, there are very few players in the world who produce a more reliable outlet than Bayern Munich superstar striker Harry Kane, who has a stunning 379 career goals in 587 appearances.

United have held a long-term interest in Kane, but the 31-year-old moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Germany in 2023 and has scored 72 goals in 73 games for the Bavarian club ever since.

However, with rumours of a release clause within his contract, United and Amorim have been told by former Premier League defender Markus Babbel that they should do everything to secure him amid the struggles of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee up front.

“If I was Manchester United, I’d be doing everything to sign Harry Kane because of this £67 million release clause,” Babbel said via The Mirror. “At Manchester United, it’s not acceptable what is currently going on at that club.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and for how many years now have they been struggling. It shouldn’t be possible. They spend so much money too. Every year they seem to be getting worse and still all while spending much more money than before!

“If I was Manchester United, I would be splashing out on signing Harry Kane because he is a quality player and he will score goals, and if you have a striker up front scoring goals then your chances of winning games are much bigger. If I was Manchester United, I’d do everything possible to sign him.”

United would have to reverse their Kane decision

Despite Babbel’s words, which many fans would likely agree with, a report from The Metro last week explained that United are unlikely to make a move for Kane.

The England captain has a £54 million release clause in his current Bayern Munich contract that is active from next January, although it has been stated by the above report from The Mirror that Bayern would be happy to let him leave in the coming summer should a £67 million bid be made.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Kane’s situation, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “A deal for €80 million (£66 million) was available in January and not valid in the summer, but there was not even one single contact with Premier League clubs as Kane is not even planning for a move as of now.

“He’s very happy in Munich, his family is happy in Germany and Bayern are absolutely planning with Kane also for next season.

“However, there’s one more clause for next year, which is only available in January 2026 and worth €65 million (£54 million). It won’t be possible to proceed with the clause in summer 2026, but that clause could set the price in case some club decides to enter the race after the USA World Cup. It’s one to watch, for sure.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be a big fan of Harry Kane, but the Manchester United project is going in a different direction, trusting young players, reducing salaries and following different principles, so there’s nothing really concrete in this rumour despite recent reports.”
