Rúben Amorim is in line to select an “animal” Manchester United starlet as the club travel to face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their recent struggles when they take on Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Rúben Amorim’s side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in their last outing, a result that left them sitting 15th in the league table.

Under mounting pressure, United will hope for a repeat of their dominant 4-0 win over Everton in November, when Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford both netted braces in what remains Amorim’s most convincing victory to date.

However, the Toffees have improved since then under former United boss David Moyes, who has guided them to 14th place—one point ahead of United after 25 matches.

Obi in line for selection

Against Tottenham, Amorim was forced to select eight players under the age of 20 due to an extensive injury problem, with seven of those being Academy players.

In the tie, young striker Chido Obi then made his debut with just a few minutes left to play, with the 17-year-old having been tipped for a big future at Old Trafford.

Although as many as five first-team players are set to return for United against Everton, Obi is still in contention for selection in the squad.

This is because, despite both the U21s and U18s playing earlier this week, Obi was not involved in either tie, hinting that may be because he has been training with the first team ahead of the Merseyside journey.

Obi is an “animal”, says Jones

Speaking to Sam Allardyce on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, former United defender Phil Jones recently said: “Working in and around the academy and helping those young players develop, United have some really good and talented young players coming through.

“The squad had a lot of injuries against Tottenham and the bench was full of kids, but there were some talented players on that bench. People might not know a lot about them now, but they certainly will in the next few years.

“I think you look at Kobbie Mainoo, top player, you look at Chido who we’ve just signed from Arsenal, who’s an animal.

“You look at Amad who had a couple of really good loans, and I remember watching him winning it against Liverpool in extra time last season, and I had said at that time he’d play a huge part in the next season.

“I played with Amad for a year or two and you could see then that the quality he had was really good and really strong. As I said there’s a great crop of young players ready to be given the chance and integrated into the team.”
