“We have to…” Rúben Amorim hints at permanent double Manchester United position change
Rúben Amorim has hinted at a double permanent position change at the club as Manchester United prepare to face Everton in the Premier League.
Rúben Amorim is gearing up for his second Premier League tie as Manchester United’s new head coach as they welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United’s first two results have come in the form of a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town and a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt as they look to continue the good form set by Ruud van Nistelrooy before Amorim joined.
The tie represents Amorim’s first Premier League fixture at Old Trafford following his first outing in the stadium on Thursday evening, with United needing points on the board.
Currently, they sit 12th in the league table on 16 points, six off from Arsenal and Chelsea in the top four Champions League qualification positions.
Dalot’s position change
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Everton tie, Amorim explained to the press on Thursday evening that he feels full-back Diogo Dalot is a fantastic player.
However, he hinted that although Dalot has played at left-back for much of this season, he plans to move the player back to right-back on a permanent basis once he has the option to do so.
“He is very powerful, we have to rotate him sometimes because he always looks fresh, but he is not like that, he is not a machine,” he said when asked about how the 26-year-old can fit in his system.
“I think he plays better on the right and we will manage to put him on the right. He is a very good player, very powerful that can play both sides and nowadays, a player that can play on both sides is perfect because you can put him in different positions.
“I expect the same as last year that you saw. A great player that can help the team and he is really a team player, you can feel it in every way, he leads the game and he is very important for us.”
A second position change
If Amorim is planning on playing Dalot as a right-back, then this means Noussair Mazraoui’s oermenant position may change, too.
Mazraoui has been playing as a right centre-back for the opening two games under Amorim and has earned particular praise for his stunning performances from the coach.
“He’s an incredible player, he’s our future,” the 39-year-old gushed on Mazraoui during his post-match interviews.
“He played in different positions, he looks always fresh but we have to be careful. There’s a lot of games but he’s here to stay. This kind of player is what we need.”
Dalot and Mazraoui working on the right hand side of defence could be a brilliant engine for Amorim and his squad, with both players comfortable in both attack and defence.
