According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rúben Amorim now sees one Manchester United outcast as an “important part” of his squad going forward.

Manchester United are entering a new era of financial discipline under Rúben Amorim, a stark contrast to the heavy spending seen during Erik ten Hag’s time in charge.

Under Ten Hag, the club spent over £600 million in five transfer windows, though many feel the results on the pitch have not justified the investment.

Amorim has already pinpointed several key areas for improvement, including the need for a striker, a centre-back, a left-back, and possibly more depth in midfield.

To fund these necessary additions, the club are looking to offload some of their high-value players.

Amorim sees Antony as an “important part” of his squad

When Amorim first joined United, it became clear that several of the current first-team players would be sold in the coming months to raise funds, with one of these likely to be Antony.

Just before Amorim took hold of the United squad, Antony got to the point of seeking clarification with club chiefs about his role in the future after he had not started any of the side’s opening nine Premier League ties, playing just 26 minutes in the competition.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now explained that, after the opening six weeks of Amorim’s time at United, he now sees outcast Antony as an “important part” of the squad, although the club would still be open to suitable offers in January.

“Rúben Amorim also remains determined to help Antony to improve and be an important part of his squad for 2025,” Romano explained.

“in this case, a good proposal could open the doors to a January exit for the Brazilian winger but Man United have not received any concrete approach.”

What Amorim said about Antony after playing at wing-back

Recently, Antony has been trialled as a right wing-back, and Amorim explained that despite Antony’s struggles at the club so far, every player has had a fresh start to impress.

“I think, when we started, everybody is from scratch,” Ruben said earlier this month.

“We took like one month to explain that everything has a new beginning because every person deserves a new beginning and the power is in their hands because, if they show it, I will put them in to play.

“I just want to win. They are responsible to play, not me. He did a great job improving in that position. He has to defend more but he has the ability to do it and has to do it himself.”
