Manchester United star fails Rúben Amorim vs Plzen just days after he was named ‘unsellable’
One Manchester United star has failed Rúben Amorim just days after he was dubbed ‘unsellable’ by the Old Trafford head coach.
Manchester United were able to secure three points on the road in the Europa League after two goals from Rasmus Højlund led Rúben Amorim to a 2-1 win over FC Viktoria Plzeň.
The tie started off with Amorim’s men dominating in possession, but failing to use it as poor passes and consistent miscommunication allowed Plzen to defend with ease.

However, a horrid error from goalkeeper André Onana handed the home side a lead early in the second half, although Rasmus Højlund was able to tap in a rebound from Amad Diallo’s initial effort after a dazzling run.
Mason Mount had a chance to send United ahead with 15 minutes of regulation time remaining, and while hope started to feel as if it was lost, club captain Fernandes stepped up to deliver yet another assist this season as Højlund scored again to knock in the winning goal with just minutes left on the clock.
United’s three points have rocketed them into the top eight of the Europa League, which would allow them to bypass the play-off stage taking place in the new year.
Onana fails Amorim
Although Højlund’s double saved Onana, in the last two games, the Cameroon international has failed his head coach.
While United have needed stability, after great performances this season, a lot of Onana’s decision-making of late has thrown this into disarray, especially against Plzen.
His pass to Matthijs de Ligt, which lead to the home side’s opening goal, was rather inexplicable, as the Dutch international was clearly in no position to receive the pass as he was backing away from United’s goal at the time.
Onana has shown before that he can overcome adversity, as he did after a string of errors last campaign, but he must make sure that he does not fail Amorim in such dramatic fashion again.
Onana is ‘unsellable’
This comes just days after Sky Germany report that Rúben Amorim has identified six players he considers “unsellable” following his first month in charge of Manchester United.
According to the report, alongside two or three additional names, Amorim is determined to retain André Onana, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo as part of his long-term plans for the club.
It is also revealed that United agree over half of the current squad could be serious candidates for sale in the winter or summer transfer windows, provided suitable offers arrive.
Amorim is reportedly eager to make significant changes to the team he has inherited. However, the club are reluctant to completely overhaul the squad currently based at Carrington.
