Rúben Amorim has highlighted one Manchester United star for big improvements in training, but his position must change.

Rúben Amorim’s debut as Manchester United manager ended in a 1-1 stalemate against Ipswich Town in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

United struck early, with Marcus Rashford slotting home in the second minute after a brilliant run and pinpoint cross from Amad Diallo.

Ipswich hit back just before the break when Omari Hutchinson unleashed a spectacular shot that sailed over André Onana and into the top corner, aided by a deflection off Noussair Mazraoui.

Despite the equaliser, Onana shone throughout, producing a string of crucial saves to keep the match level as the final whistle blew.

Amad is improving

Speaking to the press after the game, Rúben Amorim was asked about Amad, who played as a right wing-back against Ipswich despite normally being deployed as an attacking winger.

Amorim was asked what he made of Amad’s display, to which he explained that Amad has been improving his defensive game in training.

|I think it was very good,” Amorim started. “He improves a lot. Since these three days, he improves so much defensively.

“But for him, you have to… The opponent that he had all the time was the left-back. So it’s like a winger that follows the left back. So it’s so much easier I think, because he doesn’t have to think, can I jump in the central back or not?

“You just follow one guy and go forward with the same guy. It’s like a game man-to-man in that area. But I think he was so focused on everything. I think he did a great job.”

His position must change

Despite Amad’s positive performance, it is clear that the closer he is to the goal, the more effective he becomes within the team.

His defensive efforts must be commended, but once United has more players returning to the team, he will be free to play a more attacking role as Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui will return to the right-back position.

Amad created the assist for Rashford’s opening goal and continued showing flashes of brilliance across the right-hand flank.

Undoubtedly, he will be an integral player for Amorim as time progresses, and he is finally getting his flowers after years of hard work behind the scenes at the club.
