Rúben Amorim identifies new January transfer focus, he’s unimpressed with £35k p/w Manchester United man
Rúben Amorim has reportedly issued a new January transfer focus at Manchester United after being unimpressed with one player following poor showings at the club.
Manchester United are embracing a more restrained transfer strategy under Rúben Amorim, a stark contrast to the big spending seen during Erik ten Hag’s reign.
Over five transfer windows, Ten Hag oversaw investments surpassing £600 million, a massive outlay that many believe failed to deliver the expected progress on the pitch.
Amorim has made it clear that the squad requires significant reinforcements, with a striker, a centre-back, a left-back, and possibly additional midfield options topping the list.
Meeting these needs will be essential as the club seek to balance their ambitions with a more disciplined financial approach.
To support these plans, United are expected to sell some of their high-value players, signaling a shift towards a more calculated and sustainable approach to building the squad. This change reflects not only fiscal responsibility but also a strategic effort to rebuild United’s competitive foundation.
Amorim adds transfer plan after being unimpressed with Bayındır
According to talkSPORT, United have now started putting feelers out in January to replace back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayındır on the request of Amorim.
United signed the Turkey international in 2023 to provide competition for United first-choice shot-stopper André Onana, but having made just four appearances for the club since then, they are looking to move him on.
Bayındır has made one appearance under Amorim but failed to impress as he conceded four goals against Tottenham Hotspur last month, with the goalkeeper being outdone by Son Heung-min directly from a corner.
The goalkeeper currently earns £ 35,000 a week at United but looks set to depart, and if this isn’t in January, this is almost certainly due to happen in the summer.
Who are United targeting to replace Bayındır?
Multiple reports have stated that United are looking at Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens as a possible replacement for Bayındır.
According to The Telegraph, Lammens is one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in Europe, and United have sent scouts to watch him in the Belgian Pro League.
There have also been growing links between United and Leeds United ‘keeper Illan Meslier as a potential summer signing, although there is no noise that Onana may leave United.
The club have also been linked with Brazilian and Botafogo man John Victor, who was voted as the best player in Brazil after helping his club win the Brazilian league title and Copa Libertadores title.
