One Manchester United player is reportedly set to depart the club this summer for a likely £42 million fee after Rúben Amorim has decided to axe the star from his Old Trafford plans.

Manchester United are set for a major summer overhaul as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s squad by maximising profits from player sales.

With several players considered unsuited to Amorim’s system, a significant clear-out is expected in the upcoming transfer window.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are among those departing, with their contracts expiring at the end of the season.

Additionally, United plan to sell loaned-out players Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, while experienced names like Casemiro are also expected to leave.

Amorim makes his decision on Garnacho

Alongside the number of ageing players who are set to depart from Old Trafford in the next few months, there have also been many reports stating the club would be open to letting Academy players go.

Sales of those such as Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford would represent pure profit on the club’s books as the players were not purchased but instead grown from the club’s Academy.

With this in mind, a fresh report from Spain has detailed that Amorim no longer sees Garnacho as part of his long-term plans at Old Trafford after the player has failed to adapt to his system.

Therefore, the club have chosen that they will let the 20-year-old leave the club this summer amid their continuing financial struggles.

Where could Garnacho move to this summer?

Further, the Spanish report states that, amid United’s decision to part ways with the Argentina international, they are willing to let him leave for a fee of £42 million and that a return to Spain is on the cards.

It has been claimed that Atletico Madrid are closing in on his signing, and that Garnacho is seen as an ideal player to start in manager Diego Simeone’s 4-4-2 formation.

Atleti are said already to have an agreement on personal terms with the player, and he will almost certainly return to the club he departed in 2020 when he put pen to paper at Old Trafford.

The transfer is seen by those in Madrid as a “strategic move” to add to the growing number of young and talented players Atleti possess, with Simeone wanting to add to the flank that supplies striker Julián Álvarez.
