Ruben Amorim has made a worrying admission about one of his ‘struggling’ Manchester United stars ahead of the game against Everton.
Manchester United have started to find form in the Premier League after a difficult start and will want to continue that rhythm against Everton on Monday evening.
With five games unbeaten, Ruben Amorim has started to see several players finding their best form, with Matthijs de Ligt and Bryan Mbeumo being the standout performers.
However, there are still some players at Old Trafford who are not excelling and need to improve their levels as soon as possible, otherwise major questions will be asked.
One of those players is Manuel Ugarte, who has been consistently poor when appearing off the bench this season and Amorim has been discussing his disappointing displays.
Amorim makes worrying admission about ‘struggling’ United star
Ugarte was signed at United in the summer of 2024 and he experienced difficulties in his debut campaign with the club.
But now as a rotation option, it seems like the Uruguayan has gotten even worse. He came off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur and was involved in the mess for both of the North London side’s goals.
Amorim has explained how it is his job to help Ugarte turn things around but he also worryingly admitted that the midfielder has to improve his level in training at Carrington.
“You can sense that a lot of very good players come here and sometimes they struggle,” Amorim began when asked about Ugarte’s form.
“He is struggling in the moment, but it is our job to try and help our players. Again, everything can change. You saw it, five weeks ago, the environment was completely different.
“I know that Ugarte is struggling in the moment and my job is to help him to feel, as a player, like I felt when he was a Sporting player.
“But it’s a different role and he needs to adapt, and he needs to improve, especially in training.”
Amorim’s demand for Ugarte is extremely clear
It isn’t often that a manager publicly says that a player must improve in training but Amorim is almost always honest in the media.
Ugarte is not the type of player who will be aggravated by those comments but it is worrying that his training performances are not to the required level.
Even though he has only started three games this season, Ugarte has had plenty of chances to impress, with seven appearances off the bench as well.
There are plenty of areas he needs to improve in his game if he wants to ever become a regular starter at Old Trafford but his main priority right now needs to be hitting the right levels on the training ground.
