Rúben Amorim has reportedly made a decision regarding the future of Mason Mount, as a second star will not be handed a lifeline at Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United are gearing up for a transformative summer as Rúben Amorim prepares to overhaul his squad at Old Trafford.
Under the guidance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club plan to offload at least ten senior players — a mix of free departures and big-money sales aimed at raising substantial funds for reinvestment.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans will exit when their contracts end in June, while Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are all up for sale in deals that could bring in upwards of £100 million.
Meanwhile, the futures of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho remain up in the air, with United weighing their importance against the need to relieve financial strain.
Amorim makes Mount transfer decision
Mason Mount has not had the success he had initially hoped for when he joined United from Chelsea in a £50 million transfer in 2023.
He has notched just two goals for the club and has made 41 appearances across his first two seasons, far below the standard fans had hoped for when the 26-year-old signed and was handed the No. 7 shirt under Erik ten Hag.
However, Amorim has been very outspoken on the player whom he sees as a “proper footballer” and following his goal against Brentford on the weekend, was full of praise for Mount’s ability to ghost into the area.
According to FootballInsider, despite rumours that United may look to cash in on the English midfielder amid his £250,000 a week contract, Amorim still wants the player at Old Trafford.
The head coach is said to like and appreciate Mount’s abilities and work ethic, and wants to include the player in his plans for next season.
Antony to not be handed United lifeline
However, one player whom Amorim is not counting on for next season is Antony, currently on loan at Real Betis.
The above report further states that, despite his fantastic form in La Liga, United are not considering giving him a further chance at Old Trafford, and will instead look to offload him permanently next summer.
Multiple clubs, such as Betis and Atletico Madrid, are headhunting the 25-year-old, although the former would rather take him on a further one-season loan instead of paying the £35-40 million United are demanding.
But, with Amorim’s side interested in Betis and USA midfielder Johnny Cardoso this summer, there is a distinct possibility that the two clubs could look to engage in a swap deal.
