Ruben Amorim makes Man Utd claim that Roy Keane will love after ‘disappointing’ comment
Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim has made a claim that the club’s former captain Roy Keane will love after his recent ‘disappointing’ comment.
Ruben Amorim has joined Manchester United as the club’s new head coach, with his first game coming against Ipswich Town next weekend.
United are not in the best position in the Premier League, sitting 13th in the table. However, they are only four points away from Chelsea in third.
Yet, there are further concerns at Old Trafford than the position in the league table.
Under Erik ten Hag, the team could produce brilliant moments and performances, such as in the FA Cup final, but were far too inconsistent.
They have become a team that many people are unable to predict, which is something that disappointed Roy Keane after the recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
“This is an average Manchester United team. All the stats back that up. They are hit and miss – you never know which team will turn up. Not good,” the former club captain told Sky Sports
“‘Boring’ seems a bit strong but they lack conviction. It’s really disappointing. It’s so flat. This team is way off it, getting back in the top four.”
During his first interview as United boss, Amorim outlined his initial priority at the club as he joins mid-way through the season.
The 39-year-old explained that he will be aiming to instil an identity to the team at Old Trafford, with clear instructions on how to play the way he wants them to.
“We know that we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games. But the most important thing for me is identity,” he explained.
“So since day one we will start with our identity. Of course we are going to prepare the games, but we will focus a lot in our game model. How to play, how to press, these small things, small details.
“You cannot go 100 per cent on every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity.”
This will be exactly what Keane–and many supporters–want to hear. While results to potentially get Champions League football next season is important, it is more crucial to know what this United team will become.
