Ruben Amorim makes André Onana decision as five Manchester United transfer priorities revealed

Ruben Amorim has made a decision on André Onana’s future at Manchester United as the club’s summer transfer priorities have been revealed.

Manchester United are approaching the end of the 2024/25 campaign and are set to be active in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The club are going to try and bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad with several signings while also offloading some of the existing squad at Old Trafford.

Some players have been heavily linked with exits, and among those is first-choice goalkeeper and Cameroon international André Onana.

Onana, 29, has made some high-profile mistakes for United this season, most notably in the first-leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.

Reports have suggested that United are looking to move the goalkeeper on in the summer while several shot-stoppers have been linked to replace him between the sticks.

Following on from these rumours, it has been stated by Mirror reporter Simon Mullock that Onana is likely to stay at United next season.

It was claimed that Amorim has made strengthening other areas within the squad his priority ahead of swapping goalkeepers.

Alongside a centre-forward, the Reds are looking to sign two midfielders, a centre-back and another wingback as the main signings at Old Trafford this summer.

That seems like it will give Onana a lifeline at the club, with the goalkeeper also keen to try and make things work after a difficult two years since his arrival.

However, the aforementioned report did add that United could reconsider that stance if an offer over £20 million came in for Onana. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly interested in him.

What Onana needs to do to save United future

Despite the noise surrounding his name when he was named in the lineup, Onana managed to keep out of the spotlight during United’s thrilling win over Lyon in the second-leg of their Europa League clash.

The Reds conceded four goals on the night, so it sounds strange to say he was not at fault, but not much could have been done about any of them.

If he is to continue at the club, Onana needs to be able to unnoticeable in games more often than he currently is. For a goalkeeper, that is how confidence is built.

Fans are still wary about him and he will need to produce consistent performances over long stretches in order to change their minds. For every wonder-save he makes, it feels like a mistake is only around the corner and that needs to change.
