Rúben Amorim issues Kobbie Mainoo injury update as Lisandro Martínez chances vs Everton explained

Rúben Amorim has issued the latest Manchester United injury news as the club welcome Everton at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

As the November international break winds down, Rúben Amorim is now concentrating on Manchester United’s upcoming match against Everton on Monday night.

United are seventh in the Premier League, level on points with Tottenham in fifth. They sit one point behind Sunderland in fourth and two behind Chelsea in third.

After a shaky start to the season, United have begun to steady themselves. They are unbeaten in their last five matches and have suffered only one defeat in their previous seven, giving them renewed optimism as they push up the table.

Everton are 13th and have recorded two wins, two defeats, and a draw in their last five games. Their 2–0 loss to Fulham before the break has still left David Moyes’ players feeling positive as they prepare for their visit to Old Trafford.

Amorim explains latest on Mainoo, Martínez, and Maguire

United have a few injuries to contend with as Amorim heads into Monday evening’s game. Benjamin Šeško could miss the club’s next five fixtures due to a knee injury, while Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire were not spotted as part of the club’s training group on Friday morning.

However, after having spent the last nine months undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for an ACL injury, centre-back Lisandro Martínez is now back with the main group ahead of his long-awaited return to action, and could be in the squad on Monday evening.

“A smart, intelligent football player,” Amorim said of Martinez, speaking to the press on Friday afternoon. When asked if the defender could play in midfield, Amorim said, “He can play in a lot of positions, but he can’t play there. Licha is getting close to playing.”

Giving an update on Šeško, the head coach replied, “He is going to stay a few weeks out. I don’t know how long but it is not that serious we have to be careful with him. He is going to recover. He is doing the recovery and he is feeling better so we expect in a few weeks to have him back.

“I think it is going to be more or less he will be back at the same time as Amad and Mbeumo leave for AFCON. I don’t want to say for sure but when they are going to the camp I expect to have Ben back.”

Meanwhile, the United boss also confirmed that Maguire will not be ready in time to face Everton, but that Mainoo is expected to rejoin training on Saturday. “Maguire is not ready,” he said. “Kobbie didn’t train today, but I think tomorrow we could see Kobbie, so we will see.”

United preparing for AFCON departures

In exactly one month’s time, the African Cup of Nations will kick off, and United are set to lose Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui, who will compete with Cameroon, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco, respectively.

However, it’s clear that Amorim is already starting to prepare for the pending losses, with Shea Lacey having been involved in many of the side’s recent training sessions,

While the 18-year-old wonderkid is not expected to start any of the club’s upcoming games, he is seen as a young star who can fill in on the bench and potentially become an attacking reinforcement option once Amad and Mbeumo, both of whom play on Lacey’s favoured side, depart.

After impressing on the club’s post-season tour last summer, Lacey was unfortunate to be left out of the pre-season tour following an injury in July, but looks set to be able to impress fans to an extent when he eventually makes his debut.
