Rúben Amorim is set to bring in one player who has been tipped to win trophies at Manchester United as he’s a “perfect fit” for the club.
Rúben Amorim revealed last week that he and the Manchester United board have already begun preparations for the 2025/26 season.
Although the 2024/25 campaign is still ongoing, United are already planning for the summer transfer window and considering potential signings to strengthen Amorim’s squad.
It’s widely known that United are in the market for a new striker, with Liam Delap currently the frontrunner, while the club is also reportedly pushing forward with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
United are waiting to see if they secure qualification for next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League before making further decisions on potential signings, as winning the competition would bring an additional £85 million in revenue.
Delap is a perfect fit for Amorim
With United said to be pushing to sign Delap as soon as possible this summer with a report from MailSport claiming they plan to activate his release clause as soon as the transfer window opens on 1 May.
With his signing set to be secured, former United defender Paul Parker believes that United would be a perfect place for the young English striker to develop his game and play consistent football.
“I think Liam Delap needs to join a club who are going to utilise him as much as possible,” Parker told Betano. “I don’t think he’d be a good backup option, because you can see that he just wants to play football and score goals all the time.
“I think Manchester United would be a perfect fit for him. He needs to join a club where he’ll be the first-choice striker for every single game, and in this moment in time, United would fall into that category.”
Why would Delap join United?
However, considering the failings of those such as Rasmus Højlund at United, many have dubbed the striker position at United as a graveyard shift that ruins promising young talents.
But, in rebuttal, Parker explained that if Delap took up the position at Old Trafford, he would be able to tackle the challenge head-on and succeed due to his fantastic never-give-up mentality, having played well for a relegated Ipswich team and multiple seasons in England’s lower leagues.
“Some people will ask, ‘why would he want to join Man United in their current state?’, but you go to Manchester United to make a name for yourself,” Parker continued.
It’s meant to be a challenge, and it’s a bigger challenge going to Old Trafford now than it would have been if they’d perhaps just missed out on the Premier League title.
“I think Delap has got that about him – he won’t be fazed about being judged from the moment he’s there, and he’d be willing to accept that challenge. I believe that if he’s got ambitions and wanting to try and win things and make a name for himself, there’s no better club for that at the moment than Manchester United.”
