Ruben Amorim identifies ‘ideal Manuel Ugarte replacement’ as Manchester United register ‘strong interest’ in 21yo star

Manchester United have reportedly registered an interest in a talented player who Ruben Amorim considers as an ideal replacement for Manuel Ugarte in his team.

At the start of the summer transfer window, Manchester United made it clear that reinforcing their attack was a top priority, with Matheus Cunha arriving as their first signing.

The 26-year-old striker, who scored 15 Premier League goals last season, is expected to play a key role at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

United are now targeting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and the addition of both Cunha and Mbeumo would provide a major boost to Amorim’s attacking options.

The club’s next focus is on signing a striker and a midfielder, though any further additions will depend on outgoings, with multiple candidates currently being evaluated for each position.

United strongly considering Casado move

One of the latest options for the midfield appears to be Barcelona star Marc Casado after his breakthrough into the La Liga winner’s side last term.

That’s according to information from CaughtOffside, with it being explained that Casado is on United’s radar this summer.

The Reds are yet to bid for the 21-year-old but their interest is said to be strong, with Amorim considering him as the ideal replacement for Manuel Ugarte in the midfield.

Casado’s contract at Barcelona runs until 2028 and he has an £85 million release clause, although some reports have stated that he could be available for around £43 million.

The aforementioned report also mentioned that Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in him and that Barcelona are in need of a major sale this summer.

Fernandes needs new midfield partner

There are several midfielders being looked at for United and there should be key considerations as to who would fit next to Bruno Fernandes best.

With the addition of Cunha and potentially Mbeumo as well, the club captain will likely play the majority of his minutes in the deeper midfield pivot next season.

The midfield signing needs to be able to cover ground while also having the ability to anchor the midfield. Fernandes should not have to do everything in the middle.

Ugarte offers brilliant energy but does not protect the defence like a true deep midfielder and his passing is not a strong point. That might be why Amorim is considering fresh options.
