Ruben Amorim hints that Man Utd player will be benched vs Leicester City, “really important” star has taken his spot
Ruben Amorim has hinted that one Manchester United player will be benched for the upcoming Premier League clash against Leicester City.
Manchester United look to have turned a corner in their recent fixtures. Ruben Amorim’s side were bright in both of their Europa League clashes against Real Sociedad, as well in as a Premier League game against Arsenal in between.
It has only been small improvements that need to be shown on a more consistent basis, but the Reds have managed to progress to the Europa League quarter-finals and build some sort of momentum.
The most important thing for Amorim’s side right now is to not allow that momentum to fall apart. A convincing performance and victory against Leicester City on the weekend would be important for the team.
With the international break coming up afterwards, this upcoming clash represents a great chance for United to keep their morale high before potential injury returns next month.
Amorim hints Ugarte will remain benched vs Leicester City
Casemiro excelled against Real Sociedad earlier this week but was substituted midway through the second half to a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd.
Speaking in an interview with beIN Sports after the game on Thursday, Amorim suggested that substituting Casemiro was to ensure he was “ready” to face Leicester City on Sunday evening.
“I think he showed he played really well,” Amorim said. “He was so tired because of all these games and he will be ready for the next one.
“I think he did a great exhibition – not just this last game, the others too. I think he was really important in the moment for us.”
This suggests that Amorim will stick with the midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro against The Foxes while keeping Manuel Ugarte benched.
Ugarte, who has provided some solid performances under Amorim, returned from injury earlier this week, is set to remain on the bench.
Despite the Uruguayan midfielder fitting Amorim’s demands better on paper, Casemiro’s form over the last few games has been excellent and he deserves to continue in the team.
Amorim learning how to use Casemiro
Casemiro had some questionable displays under Amorim earlier in the season and it looked like the 33-year-old would barely feature for the rest of the season.
However, Amorim has admitted that he is learning how to get the most out of different players such as the Brazilian midfielder. Casemiro has not be tasked with a strenuous pressing role in recent games and he has been able to offer a lot of quality on the ball.
“I think I’m also learning how to use players like Casemiro and, like you said, without a lot of options, we are trying to put our players in the best positions and that helps us a lot,” Amorim told TNT Sports.

“So I’m trying to find the best solution for the team, and that helps us to play all the time with the same team. It was hard, sometimes we lost some pace in the end of the games, but we are learning.
“I think Casemiro gave us a little bit of calm. Sometimes, he takes a little bit long when he was not playing too much, you feel it in the game against Newcastle. The pace was not there but he is giving that first moment of build-up, and then you can push Bruno [Fernandes] near the goal, so he’s dangerous there.”
