Ruben Amorim has reportedly made it clear that he will not be selling one of his Manchester United stars amid rumours surrounding his future.
Rúben Amorim has a lot of management to do this season with respect to his front line after major adjustments were made in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Manchester United spent almost £200 million securing a new front line, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško all joining the ranks as a new front three.
Many exits were made too, as Alejandro Garnacho joined Chelsea and Antony signed for Real Betis, while Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho all left on loan.
However, with the likes of Amad, Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, and Chido Obi all remaining at the club, questions have arisen about how Amorim can manage his forward department with just one game a week for much of the rest of the campaign.
Amorim adamant Zirkzee should not be sold
Zirkzee’s start to life at United was slow and poor, despite scoring on his debut. The Dutchman had fitness issues after no pre-season, but was thrown straight into the starting team.
After Amorim’s arrival in November last year, Zirkzee started to earn the trust of United’s head coach and became an integral player until a hamstring injury halted his progress.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Amorim also blocked Zirkzee from being sold in both the January and summer 2025 transfer windows.
Romano reports in his latest GiveMeSport column that Amorim considers the 24-year-old an “important” part of his attacking cohort who can play both as a striker and as an attacking midfielder, and has communicated this to the club. The player himself also wants to remain at United.
This comes not long after Zirkzee was tipped for a move back to Italy next summer following the success of former teammate Scott McTominay.
Italian clubs still tracking Zirkzee’s future
Despite United holding the door for Zirkzee’s possible exit firmly shut for now, the Italian journalist further clarified that Serie A sides are continuing to keep tabs.

AC Milan were strong candidates for his signing in 2024 before United made a move, while Inter Milan, Napoli, and Juventus have all shown interest in the player over the last eight months.
In particular, the Old Lady were “insisting like crazy” that a deal for a loan with an option or obligation to buy should be completed, but to no avail.
United are reportedly considering signing an experienced striker next summer to help younger stars like Šeško and Obi continue to develop without intense goalscoring pressure, which could, in turn, force Zirkzee out the door if he does not impress in the coming months.
