Ruben Amorim has two selection headaches ahead of the game against Arsenal over two Manchester United players that he ‘loves’.

Ruben Amorim has enjoyed a solid start as Manchester United manager, securing two wins and a draw in his first three matches, including an impressive 4-0 victory over Everton last weekend.

The United boss will be pleased with how his squad has adapted to his new system so far. However, the upcoming clash with Arsenal presents a tougher challenge, as Mikel Arteta’s side currently sits second in the Premier League.

With Arsenal nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, every game is crucial for their title ambitions. This leaves United in a position to play without significant pressure, aiming to cause an upset under their new manager.

The Reds will travel to the Emirates Stadium, where they’ve struggled in recent years, with their last victory there dating back to January 2019.

Amorim’s selection headache for Arsenal vs Man Utd

Amorim has already proven that he is not afraid of rotating his squad, especially in these early days as he still looks to identify his best starting team.

However, he will have selection headaches ahead of the trip to Arsenal, with the main one coming in the attacking areas.

This game will likely need a good out of possession shape and press from United, which makes a start for Mason Mount seem very logical.

Amorim has already expressed his ‘love’ for Mount and he looked sharp when he started in the Europa League last week.

However, if he came into one of the roles behind the striker, that would leave just one position for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes. Two of them seem nailed on to start the game.

The United boss could look to move Fernandes deeper into the midfield two alongside Manuel Ugarte like he did against Bode/Glimt.

However, that will also bring potential downside due to the attacking firepower of the opposition. Amorim will have to weigh up the positives and negatives to moving Fernandes deeper to fit Mount into the team.

Another solution could be to use Rashford up top once again so that the two midfielders could play in behind him, however, the head coach has already suggested that the no.10 is not best-placed as the lone striker when dealing with physical centre-backs.

Instead, Rasmus Højlund is expected to get the nod up front after Joshua Zirkzee started on the weekend. Both players scored two goals each in their latest starts.
