Rúben Amorim has ‘already decided on André Onana’s Manchester United future’ amid “big news” claim

With the summer transfer window nearing closer, Manchester United have reportedly decided prematurely to part ways with one of their regular starters.

After what has been a very disappointing campaign, it goes without saying that Manchester United are in store for a very busy summer transfer window, as they aim to buy into Ruben Amorim’s philosophy.

Since the Portuguese managers arrival, The Red Devils have managed to fall from 13th place in the Premier League, to 14th place, whilst being on the verge of a record low goalscoring tally as it stands.

A widely admitted summer shake-up is known to be on the cards for Amorim’s side, but with financial regulations to adhere to, there could be a few uncomfortable sales along the way.

This being said, the future of one key starter has already been decided on according to reports, which could be a massive talking point ahead of the up-coming window.

Amorim ‘already decided’ on Onana’s future

One position that has had a question mark surrounding it all season for Amorim’s side is the goalkeeping position. Andre Onana has played the majority of games, but has suffered back-to-back shaky campaigns.

Reports from Fichajes have boldly claimed that Amorim and United’s higher-ups have had their minds made on the shot-stopper, with it being said that they have decided to part ways with Onana already.

The Cameroonian international has been in the headlines frequently for the wrong reasons since he joined the club for £47 million in 2023, with his latest blunders against Olympique Lyonnais potentially being the final straw.

After his Lyon display, Onana was dropped as United lost 4-1 against Newcastle, which transfer expert David Ornstein admitted was “big news” regarding his future at the club.

Their report reads: “Since his arrival, Onana has failed to show the confidence and solidity expected. His errors, both in the Premier League and in European competitions, have cost Ruben Amorim’s team important points, and this has ultimately put him in the spotlight.

It continues by stating, “The club has already begun to make moves and is open to listening to offers for the African goalkeeper.”

Onana sale to be a difficult process

Despite The Red’s apparently being decided on their first team goalkeeper’s future, selling Onana may be a lot easier said than done, especially with him still having three years on his contract.

The former Champions League finalist earns a reported base salary of £6.24m annually, equalling around £120,000 per week, which could be difficult to get off the books.

Trying to find a suitor for Onana could prove troublesome for United higher-ups, with there being no rumoured interest as of yet, and Onana’s market value suffering at the hands of his frequent mistakes.

If Amorim’s side are able to get rid of their regular goalkeeper this summer, then they will move for a new number one, with names such as Bart Verbruggen and Freddie Woodman already being rumoured to the club.
