Ruben Amorim gets fans talking after spotted making interesting gesture during Manchester United’s defeat to Wolves

Ruben Amorim made an interesting gesture to a certain Wolverhampton Wanderers player at halftime during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday, and it’s certainly got fans talking.

The Manchester United manager was involved in a very interesting and exciting gesture at halftime on Sunday as his side slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers side in the Premier League.

United have been linked heavily to the player in question, who is anticipated to leave his club when the season ends. He currently has a release clause of £62.5m which will allow him to depart if triggered, with Wolves all but resigned to seeing him leave.

Ruben Amorim will have seen his team’s failure to create and sustain attacks against Wolves on Sunday, and the signature of someone like the player in question would immediately improve the dynamic on the pitch between the forward players.

It won’t be an easy purchase, but gestures like the one made by Amorim today may point towards the fact that there is some substance to the suggestions that United are pursuing the attacker.

Amorim involved in interesting gesture with Cunha

Ruben Amorim gave Matheus Cunha an interesting pat on the back as the pair walked off into the Manchester United tunnel at half time, leaving a lot of fans questioning whether there was more to meet the eye in the pat.

United have been heavily linked to Cunha and are said to be one of the key teams in the race for his signing this summer. It’s not the first time Amorim and Cunha have been involved in a noteworthy scenario, with the Reds manager previously embracing the Brazilian after the defeat at the Molineux earlier this season.

The home side dealt with Cunha very well throughout the game, but his class was evident despite the way he was handled by the United defence. Tyler Fredricson was one of the key reasons the side from Old Trafford managed to keep the Wolves forward quiet, with the Carrington academy graduate having a hugely impressive debut.

It won’t be a one-sided battle for the former Atletico Madrid attacker this summer, with clubs like Arsenal also said to be in the race. He has been on the radar at United for a long time, dating back to before Rasmus Hojlund signed under Erik ten Hag.

Amorim made a comment about Cunha recently when speaking about the quality in the Wolves side, name-dropping just the Brazilian in his assessment of Sunday’s opponents. When asked whether there was a particular reason he named only Cunha, the United manager refused to suggest he did it on purpose.

“He’s playing a 3-4-3, he’s doing quite well! He’s changing some players, he has real quality players – Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality. They are fresh.

“I just gave the example because I remembered about Matheus. He’s scoring a lot of goals. Just that.”

Cunha feels like a United player

The silkiness and attitude with which Matheus Cunha operates feel like they belong in a red shirt. The links have been there for a long time, and it feels like he is the type of personality that thrives at Old Trafford, in an environment where so many have crumbled.

£60.5m may seem like a lot of money, but for a Champions League-level talent who has proven Premier League pedigree, it’s a risk United should and might need to take. The signings of Liam Delap, Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha automatically improve Amorim’s side, and they can all be brought in for United for around £150m if INEOS can negotiate properly.

Premier League signings are the way to go for the time being. Shopping outside the league has proved frivolous in recent years recruitment-wise for United, so going back to basics and signing young and hungry players with a point to prove should be the policy going forward.

It’s the most important summer transfer window in the history of the club, and they cannot afford to let players like Cunha slip through their fingers.
