Ruben Amorim explains two interesting reasons behind six Manchester United changes vs Arsenal
Ruben Amorim has explained two interesting reasons behind making six changes to his Manchester United line-up against Arsenal.
Ruben Amorim has made an encouraging start to his tenure as Manchester United manager, achieving two wins and a draw in his first three matches, including a commanding 4-0 victory over Everton.
While pleased with how his team has adapted to his system so far, Amorim now faces a tougher challenge in a Premier League clash against second-placed Arsenal.
With nine points separating Arsenal from league leaders Liverpool, every match is crucial for Mikel Arteta’s side to maintain their title challenge.
For United, the game presents an opportunity to play with freedom, and Amorim will be hoping to inspire his team to deliver an upset.
Amorim explains rotation for Man Utd vs Arsenal
It was a surprise to see Amorim make six changes to his starting team to face the Gunners when the teams were released on Wednesday evening.
Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford were among those to drop to the bench, while Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount and Rasmus Højlund came into the team.
Amorim has explained that changes were needed against Mikel Arteta’s side, especially since the opposition had one extra day of rest in preparation for the game.
He also notes the importance of having athleticism in the midfield with Fernandes and Ugarte behind Mount and Garnacho.
“Thinking about having the ball. We are looking for that as Arsenal are a strong team and Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes can run – that’s important for today,” he told Amazon Prime when asked about the line-up.
“We are playing two in two days and Arsenal has one more day [rest] so we have to rotate the team – it is impossible to play the same team.”
