Ruben Amorim explains reasoning behind Cristiano Ronaldo nickname, Man Utd fans will love it
Ruben Amorim has explained the reasoning behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s nickname for him and Manchester United fans will love it.
Cristiano Ronaldo played with Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim in Sporting’s youth academy and for the Portugal national team.
Reports have explained that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner nicknamed the new United head coach ‘the poet’ during their time as players together.
In his first interview with club media, Amorim was asked whether Ronaldo’s reported nickname for him was true.
“Yeah,” admitted Amorim. “But it’s like a funny thing because when I speak, I speak, I think I speak from the heart.
“I think the people feel that it was something just to have fun.”
For United fans, it has quickly become apparent that the new head coach is an excellent speaker and has the tools needed in that department.
Whether it’s dealing with the media or trying to inspire his players, Amorim looks to have the perfect communication skills.
That was an area which was lacking for former boss Erik ten Hag, who often struggled to get his point across to journalists.
Amorim’s first game in charge at the club comes away from home against Ipswich Town in the Premier League next weekend.
“I think you will see an idea. You could like it or not, I don’t know, but you will see an idea,” he added when asked about what fans can expect from his first games with the club.
“You will see a positioning. You will see something that we want to reach that kind of level. You will feel that. But we have to know that it’s like two trainings before the first match.
“This is the best league in the world. But if I have to say something to you, you will see an idea. This I can guarantee.”
