Ruben Amorim has explained some of Patrick Dorgu’s standout qualities after his impressive display for Manchester United against Bournemouth.
Manchester United secured an impressive 4-1 win over Bournemouth in their second Premier League Summer Series match at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Despite some disappointment among fans over the absence of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from the squad, the team delivered a performance that exceeded expectations.
Ruben Amorim’s men were dominant throughout, with their energy and quality proving too much for Bournemouth to handle.
Rasmus Højlund opened the scoring early, followed by a quick second from Patrick Dorgu. Amad added a third shortly after half-time, and young winger Ethan Williams capped things off with a fourth after several substitutions.
Bournemouth netted a late consolation, but it did little to take the shine off a strong United display.
Amorim explains four standout Dorgu qualities
It wasn’t hard to pick a Man of the Match for this game, with Dorgu standing out clearly despite the many great performances from United players.
The left wingback has been United’s best player during the pre-season so far and he looks like he’s gaining confidence ahead of the new season.
Amorim echoed that sentiment as he lauded the efforts of the Danish defender during an interview with club media after full-time.
Asked about Dorgu’s development since he joined the club in January, the United boss said: “It’s impressive… he’s 20 years old. He looks more like he belongs in Manchester United and that is hard to do at 20 years old.
“He’s so powerful, he’s getting the technique in his game, he’s defending so well, he’s pressing so well. I’m really impressed with Patrick.”
Dorgu is making clear improvements
Amorim doesn’t usually like to praise his players too much in the media, especially the younger players, but it is hard to not acknowledge Dorgu’s impressive efforts this summer.
It was clear that he had the physical attributes to compete in the Premier League last season but there were a lot of parts of his game which needed refining.

Those improvements are coming fast and the player looks so much more comfortable playing on that left flank for the Reds.
With a goal and an assist against Bournemouth, Amorim will no doubt be challenging Dorgu to keep contributing in attack for when the season starts against Arsenal.
