Rúben Amorim has disagreed with Erik ten Hag over an ‘incredible’ star at Manchester United that he wants to begin coaching.

With Rúben Amorim set to take charge of Manchester United after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, there’s a lot to unpack.

Nearly a year into Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership, his vision for the club is beginning to take shape, and many anticipate that Amorim will make sweeping changes to the squad Ten Hag has assembled over the past two and a half years.

In the coming months, Amorim is expected to carefully assess the players, determining who aligns with his plans and who might not make the cut.

While rumours swirl over which players the 39-year-old manager will choose to retain, sell, or recruit in the next transfer windows, much of the attention is on how the current squad will adapt to Amorim’s favoured three-at-the-back system.

Amorim’s incredible player

One United man many are touting to become a success under Amorim is the 2024 summer signing Manuel Ugarte, who joined from Paris St. Germain on deadline day for a fee of around £43 million.

Ugarte spent two seasons under Amorim at Sporting, and the 39-year-old developed him into the player for whom PSG and United have since paid hefty fees.

Speaking to TNT Sports on Friday, Amorim said: “All the Uruguayans I managed are incredible, and that’s why I love all Uruguayans… Ugarte is a very talented boy and has a lot of room to grow. I am very happy to know that I have him back at Manchester United!”

Ugarte himself has admitted that many of his United teammates have been picking his brain surrounding the appointment of Amorim and that he only had glowing reviews about the incoming head coach.

Disagreeing with Erik ten Hag

Amorim’s keenness to work alongside Manuel Ugarte goes against former United boss Erik ten Hag’s opinion surrounding the 23-year-old Ugurguayan international.

When United signed Ugarte in the summer, it was at the expense of Scott McTominay, whom the club sold to fund their fifth signing of the window. According to The Athletic, Ten Hag would have rather kept the Scottish international.

It is said that the Dutchman would rather have worked with McTominay or sanctioned the return of 2023/24 loanee Sofyan Amrabat over signing Ugarte, showing a preference for two other players.

Ten Hag needed to be convinced through video footage surrounding Ugarte, and even then, the 23-year-old only started four of a possible ten games before the Dutch manager was sacked.
