Rúben Amorim has confirmed who was absent from training as Manchester United prepare to face Wolves on Tuesday evening.
Manchester United close out 2025 with a home meeting against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim’s year has been a challenging one, yet a narrow 1-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle, coupled with a clean sheet, has helped restore belief that the team are progressing.
United have already beaten Wolves this season, recording an impressive 4-1 win at Molineux earlier this month. However, the Reds will be without a number of players this time around because of injuries and Africa Cup of Nations absences.
With the New Year on the horizon, Amorim will be looking for a disciplined performance and three points to keep United’s Champions League hopes alive.
Mount one of six confirmed training absences
Mason Mount has been having his best season yet for United, but had to come off at half-time against Newcastle after the Englishman felt a small problem after 45 minutes. Since then, there has been little concrete news about the player’s availability.
However, speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim recently confirmed that Mount was in fact one of six players who did not train ahead of the game against Wolves.
Speaking about how the squad have prepared for the Wolves tie, Amorim namedropped Mount as one of six players who were “not there” during training while illustrating that, despite the absences, the squad feel more confident.
“You feel that, you look to the training, Bruno [Fernandes] is not there, and they feel that Amad is not there, Mason Mount is not there, Kobbie [Mainoo] is not there, Bryan [Mbeumo] is not there, Nous [Mazraoui] is not there, and they still have the feeling that we can win, that is massive for everyone.
“So they feel more confident, and I felt, especially in these two last days, they were really focused, they were not thinking about the win in the last game, but they were really confident, they were working but having fun, that is the feeling, that they are confident that we can win, and that was massive for us.”
Could Maguire and De Ligt be available?
Two further players who have not played for United in their last few fixtures are centre-backs Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, who had been vital to the boss in the early months of the season.

Although Amorim did not name either as a player who was not in training, it’s thought that De Ligt remains unavailable. However, Maguire was recently spotted in the gym training with the squad, hinting that he may be able to return soon.
Either way, neither player should be reintroduced to the starting XI. Both Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martínez were nothing short of stunning against Newcastle, with the former being handed his first-ever Premier League Man of the Match award.
The 19-year-old has stepped into the shoes of his experienced teammates with maturity and composure beyond his years, and even if his competition were fully fit, he deserves to remain in the starting team.
