Ruben Amorim has revealed that one player is prepared to start for Manchester United in their upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester City.
Manchester United had a poor return to Premier League action earlier this week as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Ruben Amorim and his men have little time to dwell on that result though, with a crucial clash against rivals Manchester City coming on Sunday afternoon.
United’s problems in attack were on full display against Forest and Amorim may be considering some changes ahead of the derby game.
Alejandro Garnacho was particularly disappointing and may come out of the lineup against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Amorim confirms green light for Mount to start vs City
Mason Mount came off the bench against Forest to make his first appearance since mid-December and the midfielder impressed in the game.
The 26-year-old was inches away from scoring from the edge of the box and looked relatively sharp considering his time out of action.
Following on from that game, Amorim has now confirmed that he has the green light to start Mount against City after the club monitored his recovery from that game.
However, the United boss suggested that if Mount does start against City, he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes as he continues to “manage” his return to the side.
“Yes, he is fit enough to start, but we must manage him,” the 40-year-old told journalists ahead of the game.
“Mason has trained a lot of times, getting the load in his body. Sometimes the mind is more important than the body. He is fit to play and we will see on Sunday.”
Mount’s current priority is obvious
Amorim has previously described Mount as the “perfect” player for his system after succeeding in a similar shape under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
However, we are yet to see that in practice properly due to his injury setbacks. His priority right now has to be to remain fit until the end of the season.

There is little chance that he leaves the club in the summer due to multiple factors, including Amorim’s view of him, which means he will have a part to play next term.
If he can end this season strongly, without any issues, then he will be best positioned moving into an important campaign next term for both him and the club.
