Rúben Amorim makes his feelings clear on 7 g/a Manchester United star who gave Erik ten Hag a lifeline
Rúben Amorim has made his feelings clear on one Manchester United star who gave Erik ten Hag a lifeline during his final months in charge.
Manchester United claimed a vital three points in the Europa League with a 2-1 victory over FC Viktoria Plzeň, thanks to a Rasmus Højlund brace that secured the win for Rúben Amorim’s side.
The match began with Amorim’s team dominating possession, but their control failed to translate into meaningful chances. Sloppy passing and frequent miscommunication made it easy for Plzeň to hold firm defensively.

The home side capitalized on a mistake early in the second half, as a shocking error by André Onana gifted them the lead. United, however, responded swiftly. Amad Diallo’s dazzling run set up a shot that was parried, only for Højlund to slot home the rebound and level the score.
With just 15 minutes of regular time left, Mason Mount had a golden opportunity to put United ahead but couldn’t convert. As the clock ticked down, it was captain Bruno Fernandes who delivered yet another crucial assist, finding Højlund for the winning goal in the dying moments.
The win propels United into the Europa League’s top eight, positioning them to bypass the play-off round scheduled for the new year.
Amorim’s feelings on Eriksen
Christian Eriksen was once again left on the bench as United faced Plzen on Thursday evening, being ignored by the head coach when United needed a goal.
After going a goal down, Amorim chose to add Højlund, Antony, and Mount to the mix, with Alejandro Garnacho also being thrown on after the club equalised in search for a winner.
Eriksen, though, despite his four goals and three assists this campaign, was left on the bench. He has started just once under Amorim, in his opening game against Ipswich, and has not touched a moment on the field ever since.
Amorim’s feelings on the Danish international caption are clear – the 39-year-old feels he cannot depend on Eriksen the way he can rely on others such as Mount or Garnacho.
Eriksen’s contract is expiring in the summer, and as of 1 January, he will be able to discuss pre-contract agreements with other clubs. Despite his fantastic start to the season that helped keep Erik ten Hag in a job for longer than many think he deserved, he is set for a reduced role from now on.
