Ruben Amorim has kept his cards close to his chest when asked about Manchester United’s interest in Matheus Cunha but explained one positive he’s experienced in recent transfer talks.
Manchester United are looking to make many changes to Ruben Amorim’s squad in the summer transfer market in terms of incomings and outgoings.
The Reds have to focus on strengthening in attack particularly and they have already made strides in that aspect despite the window not being open yet.
Various reports have revealed that a move for Matheus Cunha is closing in and that United have held positive talks with his representatives in recent weeks.
United are also eyeing a move for Liam Delap of Ipswich Town, who is set to make a final decision on his future before the U21 European Championships begin in early June.
Amorim breaks silence on United transfer talks
Amorim was asked about the interest in Cunha during his latest press conference at Carrington and he understandably kept his cards close to his chest.
“I will not say nothing about Matheus,” he said. “Because if I say one time I will have to say for any situation that is yes or no, so I will not comment on that.
“We have to focus on this season, even the way we prepare for next season could change in these games, so it’s hard to predict what can happen in the future.”
However, Amorim did break his silence on the club’s ability to lure top players to Old Trafford and seemed to suggest that recent conversations, likely with the representatives of targets, have given him a positive feeling that they are keen to join the club.
“It’s Manchester United,” Amorim explained. “What I feel is that there are a lot of players that want to play for our club.
“And I know if you look at our club in the moment, it looks like sometimes with all the problems, the staff, people going, changing coach, the results, it looks a little bit of a problem but we have a clear idea and that’s the easiest part to explain to a player.
“And then it’s Manchester United and every player wants to play for Manchester United.”
United’s transfer policy could help ease negotiations
United’s new transfer policy of signing young players should definitely help in this department, with those kind of signings being much more focused on the long-term plan of a club.
Amorim and the United chiefs can convince these kind of players of the project, while perhaps it would be more difficult for ready-made stars who are in their prime years.
Although, you could argue that Cunha is more closer to that type of profile – but there is where the lure of being United comes in and helps the club.

Cunha clearly has an affection for the club and also has the feeling that he can be the man to help change the fortunes at Old Trafford.
However, for the most part, it will be the long-term project which can convince United’s targets that it is the right place for them to join.
