Ruben Amorim has reportedly asked Dan Ashworth to make a “outstanding” star his first signing at Manchester United.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a positive start to his tenure, registering two wins and a draw in his first three matches.

Up next is a Premier League showdown against Arsenal, but Amorim’s immediate priority is to continue evaluating his squad in the coming days.

The 39-year-old has already gained important insights into his players and will look to refine his assessments as he strategises for the next season.

Squad changes are anticipated, with new signings expected to strengthen the team and potential departures for those who do not align with Amorim’s vision.

Amorim asks for Quenda transfer

According to a report from Fichajes, new boss Amorim has ‘asked’ those in charge at Old Trafford to sign his former Sporting star Geovany Quenda.

It was claimed that the 39-year-old believes the wide player is one of the most ‘promising and emerging’ talents in the Portuguese game and wants him as a ‘priority’ target due to his ‘outstanding’ performances in Portugal.

17-year-old Quenda made his first-team debut at Sporting under Amorim, who helped develop him into one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

This also follows on from reports which claimed that United had met with Jorge Mendes, who is representing the player as he debates his next decision.

Mendes is scheduled to hold more meetings with clubs in the coming weeks to determine the most suitable move for the teenager, who seems certain to leave Sporting next year.

United have a long-standing relationship with the super agent and negotiated with him to sign Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte last summer.

Amorim rules out January move

Whilst the head coach wants to sign one of his former players – with others like Viktor Gyökeres also linked – he does not want to interrupt his ex-club’s campaign.

He has already ruled out moving for any of their players in January and will instead urge the likes of Dan Ashworth to move forward for potential deals in the summer.

“I will not sign any Sporting player at Man United in January… then, what happens in the summer I don’t know,” he admitted.

“Sporting players are good players. We will see what happens…”
