Rúben Amorim has sent out a warning amid news that Atletico Madrid are circling Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.

Rúben Amorim is preparing for his first domestic cup tie as Manchester United manager, with his side set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

United travel to North London off the back of a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City, where Amad Diallo‘s late heroics sealed a memorable victory at the Etihad.

Although Amorim’s main focus is on the Premier League and Europa League, this midweek clash presents an opportunity to build further momentum against Ange Postecoglou’s unpredictable Spurs.

Tottenham, despite their inconsistencies this season, will approach the game with confidence after a commanding 5-0 win over Southampton at the weekend.

Amorim’s transfer warning

Earlier this week, news from Spain broke that Alejandro Garnacho was being targeted by La Liga giants and former club Atletico Madrid amid uncertainty around his future.

Both he and Marcus Rashford were left out of United’s squad against Manchester City, with this reportedly alerting Atleti to the fact that they may be able to secure a “dream” transfer for the 20-year-old this summer.

It was stated that Amorim’s decision to omit Garnacho from the squad that beat City has helped the transfer ‘gain strength’, and the 39-year-old United head coach has explained that Garnacho will only be reinstated if he is able to produce his “best” every day in training.

On Wednesday morning, Amorim was asked whether Rashford and Garnacho would return to the fold, to which he replied: “We have one more training, but it’s the same as the other players. If they train well, then I have to make a choice. We’ll see at the end of training.

“I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training.”

Amorim has sent a clear warning to both Garnacho and Atletico Madrid with this message.

He has warned the player that unless he can produce his best work in training, he will not play, while also explaining to Atletico Madrid that Garnacho is still thoroughly part of his plans at Old Trafford.
