Ruben Amorim is aiming to help one of his Manchester United stars achieve his mission of securing his place at the 2026 World Cup.
Manchester United have endured an uneven start to the season, sitting 10th in the Premier League after seven matches.
Defeats to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Brentford have been offset by wins against Chelsea, Sunderland, and Burnley, while their clash with Fulham ended in a draw.
Under Ruben Amorim’s guidance, the Reds have displayed flashes of promise but remain a work in progress, with many supporters feeling the team’s development still falls short of expectations.
Although players like Matthijs de Ligt and Bryan Mbeumo have impressed, much of the squad will need to raise their levels in the weeks and months ahead if United are to climb the table.
Amorim aiming to help United star achieve World Cup mission
Another player who has looked solid so far this term is Mason Mount, who impressed in United’s victory over Sunderland before the international break. Amorim has previously described him as the ‘perfect’ player for his system.
The 26-year-old midfielder has not appeared for England since x but is passionate about earning a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
That’s according to a report from The Sun, which also states that Amorim wants to help Mount succeed in his mission. Amorim views Mount as one of the most underrated English players and is aiming to put him firmly back in the sights of England boss Tuchel.
In fact, it is suggested that Amorim believes England are missing a player with Mount’s unique profile.
Tuchel himself managed Mount at Chelsea and the now-United star was one of the German manager’s best performing players at Stamford Bridge, assisting the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final.
United need England representation
Kobbie Mainoo was the latest United star to be shining on the international stage for England, starting in the Euro 2024 final, but has since been moved out of the squad due to his lack of game-time at Old Trafford. Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are also on the outskirts of the squad now.
Marcus Rashford has been the only player contracted to the club to be selected in recent squads, although he is almost certainly not going to return to the club next season.
United representation in the England team has been a constant for decades up until last year and it is an indicator about where the team currently is.
Seeing Mount return to the England squad would be a great achievement for him but it would also be important for the Reds as it would mean that he continues his solid form throughout the season.
