Rúben Amorim has addressed a much-needed summer transfer as he warns three Manchester United stars to ‘do better’ ahead of Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace.
Manchester United’s stars look to still be adapting to Rúben Amorim’s unorthodox system, with the Portuguese tactician struggling to get the best out of many of his players.
The Reds looked to be on the up as they achieved five Premier League matches unbeaten in a row, although a damning defeat at home to Everton highlighted the flaws that had been swept under the rug in recent weeks.
Following this defeat, Amorim’s side sit 10th in the table, and will face a tough test away to Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace on Sunday.
In a press conference ahead of Sunday’s fixture, United’s manager has addressed a much-needed summer transfer, as he urges the likes of Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui to ‘do better’.
Amorim on United’s wing-backs
When asked in his press conference about the proposition of signing new wing-backs, United’s Portuguese tactician spoke on changing the characteristics of his side.
Amorim said, “We need time to improve the characteristics of the team. We should have had enough to play against ten men. It is these characteristics we will try to change.
“I don’t know how you read data on Palace players, you can’t compare. Sometimes you want to change it a lot. Most of the time, I put Amad on the right, but he moves a lot.
“They are doing the things really well. They play in transition more than us. All of these we have to look at. But in all of the positions we can do so much better.”
United to take a leaf from Glasner
The Reds travel to Selhurst Park on Sunday to face a very well-drilled Glasner side, who currently sit fifth in the table on 20 points.
Amorim has faced much criticism for his unique 3-4-3 formation, as it has highlighted key flaws within the United squad. Contrary to this, Glasner has been praised since his arrival for setting his side up in an identical formation.
The difference between the sides is that the Eagles have players who are far more suited to this system, with their wing-backs, for example, being two of their most impressive stars so far this campaign.
Hopefully, on Sunday, Amorim can find a way to best his fellow three-back manager, as his United squad look to get back to winning ways.
