Roy Keane has blasted Erik ten Hag for picking two of his current Manchester United stars, explaining they are “part of the problem” at the club.
Manchester United‘s season has fallen short of the high expectations set by their fans, especially after a summer of significant investment.
The club bolstered Erik ten Hag‘s squad with five new signings: Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui. Each player arrived at Carrington for training ahead of their respective debuts.
However, in the side’s latest fixture against Aston Villa, only one of these five started, Mazraoui at right-back. The other four, as well as four of Ten Hag’s signings from previous summers, were on the bench.
Many fans called this into question, pointing out that Ten Hag still does not know his best team if eight of his signings from the last three summers were not making the bench while those such as Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and Diogo Dalot started.
SPekaing on the latest episode of Stick to Football, former United captain Roy Keane blasted Erik ten Hag for starting to go back to picking Maguire and Christian Eriksen in recent figures.
“If you are going back to Harry Maguire you are in trouble,” Keane explained to his co-hosts.
However, fellow former footballer Jill Scott argued back, replying: “I think he always has the right attitude.”
“Ah, Jill! See the goal? Look at his defending for the equaliser against FC Twente. Just look at him for that goal,” Keane retorted. “If you think he is the answer. You can’t keep going back to Maguire and Eriksen.
“The last few years, they have made lots of changes. They get rid of Fred and McTominay; they make changes. Centre halves. Now Maguire and Eriksen are back in the team the last few weeks.
“You have gone back to the lads who are part of the problem! I’m not saying just on their own, of course not, but if you think Maguire is the answer!”
