Roy Keane makes thoughts clear on Michael Carrick as he gives three potential Man Utd manager options

Roy Keane has given his verdict regarding Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick, as well as giving three potential options for a permanent appointment.

Since arriving on the touchline for Manchester United, Michael Carrick has managed to win both of his two games in charge against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Carrick’s euphoric start to life as United caretaker has caught the eye of the public, with many already speculating whether the former United star should be made a permanent appointment.

The Reds now sit fourth in the Premier League, and with a UEFA Champions League spot well within their sights, Carrick will have to carry on his impressive start to warrant being offered the role.

From one former United midfielder to another, Roy Keane has spoken on Carrick’s start to life at Old Trafford, and has even given three potential options to take over in the summer.

Keane gives Carrick verdict

When speaking on The Overlap, Keane insisted that he will not be swayed by the performances of United over the remainder of the campaign, as he believes better managers exist on the market.

“I hope they give it to him, I hope they give it to him in the summer,” Keane said, “I don’t think it’s the right decision, but good luck with it. I’m sticking to my guns, but if he gets it in the summer, good luck to him.

“Caretaker manager is a different animal to being manager of United trying to win league titles over the next two, three, four, five years. I think you can get a better manager than Carrick, absolutely.

“But he’s doing a good job. Perfect timing for him. He’s got the players back, it’s been sliding doors moments, and he’s took advantage of it.

“His job the last week or two is to get results at Man United. If you become a manager, you have to start looking at the structure, the scouts.”

Keane hopes Carrick proves him wrong

The Irish pundit continued giving his verdict by stating that he hopes Carrick proves him wrong, although he questions whether he has the knowledge required for the job.

“So Michael Carrick is going to be the manager of Man United? He hasn’t got enough experience. I don’t think he’ll have enough football knowledge.

“I’m not saying Michael Carrick can’t be a top manager, but the timing for him to be manager of Man United in the summer? I don’t see it. If he goes in and proves me wrong and starts competing and winning titles, I’ll say, “Tell you what. Unbelievable”.’

Regarding future appointments, Keane went on to state, “There’s better options out there. It could be [Thomas] Tuchel, it could be [Luis] Enrique. I like [Diego] Simeone. Go and get the best.”
